Today I was explaining what we do at Project ID Action Fund to someone and when I finished there was a silence before she said “wow, so you guys are a think tank and a lobbying firm and a political action committee and a policy shop all in one”. I was surprised because we’re so deep into the work that I never stopped to realize that, yes, that’s exactly what we are. We:
Endorse, support, and raise funds for pro-ID candidates running for office.
Write legislation and work to get it passed (just in the last week we’ve written responses to adversarial memos, convinced organizations and agencies to support our bills, written talking points for legislators, and crafted opeds with partner organizations).
Create research and data for legislators, organizations, and agencies.
Advise legislators and agencies on ID policies.
Support organizations that are trying to change ID policies in their cities, counties, and states with talking points, sample legislation, research, and data.
It feels like A LOT, and it is, especially a tiny volunteer team of me and two part time helpers! It’s a lot, but it’s worth it. Our raison d’etre is to eliminate the ID crisis in America. We will not rest until all 26 million ID-less American adults have the IDs they need to live their lives. My dream is that one day it will sound like a joke to say that once more people than the population of every state except California and Texas did not have photo ID. We’re willing to do that work because it matters more than anything, and we’re so lucky that we get to do it. But we can’t do it without you. Consider donating to our cause to help us keep up this good work.
Thank you,
Kat
